Earlier this month, the Linguistics Association of Great Britain held a very interesting conference, in Ipswich. From my perspective, there were two particularly interesting papers about a phenomenon which occurs in many languages with verbs getting strung together in ways which do not occur in English. In a way which may seem surprising, I believe that this is very closely related to the case of passive, as by “Teddy was hurt by a fly,” which is the main topic of my current research.
